West Calder Medical Practice

How To See Your Doctor

The building is open for enquires from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

Surgeries are held daily, Monday to Friday. The doctors can normally be seen between 8.40am - 5.40pm. We also offer a limited number of early morning and evening appointments which are bookable up to a fortnight in advance. A duty doctor is available to deal with emergencies from 8am. At all other times emergency calls are covered by NHS 24, telephone 111.

The majority of appointments are bookable up to 2 weeks in advance, with a small number available on the day for medical emergencies. Urgent requests will be assessed by an appropriate Health Care Professional. You may consult any of the doctors, but we do try and encourage patients to see the same doctor where possible for a particular problem, as this ensures better continuity of care.

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please telephone in good time to cancel, so that the appointment can be given to another patient.

How To Speak To Your Doctor By Telephone

If you wish to speak to your own doctor by telephone contact the secretary and tell her what you require. She will then have any relevant reports and/or your records made available to the doctor.

Your own doctor will try to return your call as soon as possible within 3 working days.

A duty doctor is available to give advice for urgent medical problems requiring same day attention

Home Visits

If you feel you need a home visit please telephone before 10.30am. A doctor will usually assess your call so that visits can be organised according to their urgency. Please only request a home if it is not at all possible to attend the surgery.

What To Do If The Surgery Is Closed

Outwith normal surgery hours, emergency calls are covered by NHS24. The service can be contacted by telephoning 111 or by phoning the normal surgery number on 01506 874300. Your call will be assessed by an experienced nurse, who will provide advice or arrange for you to be seen by a doctor as appropriate. The out of hours service is commissioned by NHS Lothian.
